Caring for Your Diamond

A diamond is forever—with a little care. Keep yours as brilliant as the day you brought it home with a few simple habits.

Clean it regularly

Everyday oils, lotion and grime are what really dull a diamond's sparkle. Soak your piece in warm water with a drop of mild dish soap for 20–30 minutes, gently brush behind the stone with a soft toothbrush, rinse, and pat dry with a lint-free cloth. A quick clean once a week keeps it bright.

Everyday habits

  • Remove your ring for gardening, the gym, cleaning and swimming—chlorine can damage precious metal
  • Apply lotion, perfume and makeup before putting your jewellery on
  • Handle the band, not the stone—fingerprints on the diamond dull its sparkle
  • Avoid harsh chemicals and skip ultrasonic cleaners on older or fragile settings

Store it safely

Keep each piece separately, in a soft pouch or a lined compartment. Diamonds are hard enough to scratch your other jewellery—and one another—so never let them jostle together in a drawer.

Have it checked once a year

Ask a jeweller to inspect the setting and prongs annually to make sure your centre stone is held securely. A loose prong is far cheaper to fix than a lost diamond.
